about

Purple Tape Pedigree is pleased to announce Body Horror II - the next chapter of the split-single series which lowers two producers (or, production units), each divergent in sonic tradition, into the less-traveled rings of 90-120 beats-per-minute.

On Side-A, London's Her Records co-boss, MM (formerly Miss Modular), bares teeth with two squally dancehall mutations. "Charly Tek" spills a liquid metal mixture of percussive bursts, bashment chants, and a rogue whistle - forming a relentless stop-n-go riddim that is nothing short of bonecrushing. "Ohmu" furthers the midtempo exaltation like a drum-led alarm call to a sleeping titan: the intro's heavy exhales almost prepare you for what is to follow as lines of manic brass and concussive bass pound over any surroundings within blast radius. This side is a summoning.

Side-B sees N.A.A.F.I.'s Chilean club ambassador, Imaabs, utilizing the slower, tresillo bent tempo to chant the listener into hypnosis. Instead of frenzied energy, he controls the atmosphere with trance enducing minimalism and layered, musical repetition. "Disyuncion" opens with a cavernous breathing, as if meditatiing after Side-A's furious lash out, then slips into a throbbing dembow-meets-stutter step sequence annointed by ghostly bells and distant thunder. "Clinamen" advances with a sitar and frisky bassline braiding melody over a heavy set of skin percussion and snare-clap combinations - until the charging riddim takes rest for a wily change-up. This side is a storm brewing.
